Who we are

Ballet Paraisópolis was founded in 2012 by the dancer, teacher and choreographer, Monica Tarragó. The idea of creating a project that would assist children and young people in the Paraisópolis community arose from the desire to take action on what she saw from her own window: inequality and vulnerability.
Based on the experience gained as a dancer and ballet teacher, she started a training project that, through the teaching of classical and contemporary dance, encourages children and youngsters to search for better life opportunities.
Today Ballet Paraisópolis has a total of 200 students directly benefited, and another 2 thousand on the waiting list. With the support of Gilson Rodrigues from the Union of Residents and Commerce of Paraisópolis, Monica and her team strive to transform dreams into reality.

“Ballet Paraisópolis arose from the desire to transform the lives of families in this community and bring art, education and culture to Paraisópolis.
We will always encourage our students to search for better life opportunities.”

BP uses a universal language of dance which contemplates and lists national and international techniques and methods, obtained by our professors in companies and universities inside and outside Brazil. Thus, we believe that our curriculum helps the students to easily adapt to different dance styles.

We experience and encourage the union of three pillars that work together so that our goals are achieved assertively. They are: our team, our students and families. This way, our student's transformation and development are the result of constant teamwork.
